Nigel Hendroff (the Droff) Is someone who I would credit the majority of contemporary worship tone to. He is the lead electric guitar player for Hillsong. Besides being an amazing guitarist (in pretty much any style), Nigel has a great sense of how to let his instrument add to worship. Often, a worship guitar player will replicate pretty easy parts that are played by others. I believe the Droff has upped the stakes for the lead parts in worship. While some are simple in nature, their melodic musicality makes the songs what they are. He has come up with parts that aid in not only making Hillsong create good worship, but which allows them to create overall great music. Here is his pedalboard. He plays a Duesenburg Starplayer TV. For his new record he is running through a Samick amp (weird) and a Jackson Britain 2.0 (way more understandable).
